This past week I finally beat the Elite 4. By accomplishing this task, I can move towards capturing the Island Guardian Pokémon, using QR codes, and working on capturing and evolving Pokémon that I have did not get to while I was focused on completing the main game. I obtained 23 Pokémon, taking my total to 111. A lot of Pokémon obtained were through evolution but before I was to obtain them I had to catch their pre-evolution state in the wild.
Out of the 23 Pokémon obtain 7 were caught in the wild. These Pokémon are Mikikyu, Nosepass, Tapu Koko, Drampa, Klefki, Tentacool, and Pancham. Mikikyu does not evolve, but does looks like a possessed Pikachu. Tapu Koko is one of the Island Guardian Pokémon in Pokémon Moon. It is the Guardian Pokémon of Melemele Island and is the first of the Island Guardian Pokémon that will be encountered. The game forces you to encounter Tapu Koko after beating the Elite 4, sitting through the games credits, and going through multiple conversations. Just like Mikikyu and Tapu Koko, Drampa and Klefki also do not evolve. The other three Pokémon caught, Tentacool, Pancham, and Nosepass do evolve with Tentacool and Pancham evolving soon after they were caught.
14 of the 23 Pokémon obtained was through an evolution of some type. Tentacool evolves into Tentacruel at level 17. Pancham evolves into Pangoro at level 32 with a Dark-Type Pokémon in the party. Trapinch evolves into Vidbrava at level 35. Fletchling evolves into Fletchinder at level 30. Magby evolves into Magmar at level 30. Magikarp evolves into Gyarados at level 20. Geodude evolves into Graveler at level 25 which is the same in its Alola form as it is in its regular form. Male Snorunt evolves into Glalie at level 42. Grubbin evolves into Charjabug at level 20. Elekid evolves into Electabuzz at level 30. Drowzee evolves into Hypno at level 26. Herdier evolves into Stoutland at level 32. Goldeen evolves into Seaking at level 33. Finally, Mankey evolves into Primeape at level 28. Now normally any of these 21 Pokémon caught or evolved would be the cover Pokémon on a regular week but the cover Pokémon for this week was obtained from a new method.
The final two Pokémon for the past week are obtained through new methods. The first one is Zygarde which is obtained through finding Zygrade cells and cubes. Right now, my Zygrade is at 10% and if I find more cells and cubes in my travels I could upgrade Zygrade into its 50% or 100% forms. The other Pokémon is Magearna which is a Mythical Pokémon and for right now is the last official entry in the PokeDex. The only way to obtain Magearna is through a QR code on the Pokémon website. The code has been up for a few months and may be removed in March, but I have no way to confirm that. Also, the only way to use QR codes in Moon is the beat the Elite 4.
Now that I have beaten the Elite 4, I can focus on getting the Legendary Pokémon in the game as well as go back to previous games and work on progress that I stopped when I started Moon. I am also going to play around with the format in how I report on the Pokémon that I catch in the wild. Also at the end I am going to point out the new Pokémon that were introduced in Moon that I obtained that week. For this post, they are Mimikyu, Magearna, Tapu Koko, Drampa, and Charjabug. Until next time, the PokeQuest continues.
